Climate Action Update

February 3, 2011 § Leave a comment

Last fall the Center for the Sublime Arts and VolkLibre Indy Action Network collaborated with a bunch of other organizations to hold the 10/10/10 Climate Action event in Philadelphia. This was a global initiative from 350.org that rallied people from over 188 countries organized over 7,000 Get to Work parties.

Along with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM), Greenpeace, Sierra Club, Temple Students for Environmental Action, Clean Air Council, 350philly, and a few others, we held a Get to Work Philly Rally and Festival.  The rally was held at City Hall and included speakers like Katie Feeney from the Clean Air Council, Sara Wu from the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, and local sustainable entrepreneur and speaker, Judy Wicks (see video of Judy’s address in two parts here.Afterward, workshops and talks were held at the Friends Center, along with a screening of FRESH the Movie and a Real Food panel discussion, both of which we hosted. After hours of activities there, George Lakey wrapped up the festivities with a powerful rally cry for more citizen involvement.

One of the exciting outcomes from the 10/10 event was a continued collaboration between our organizations. Since October, we have continued to meet with people from PYM, Greenpeace, the Clean Air Council, the Shalom Center, Earth Quaker Action Team and others to strategize our next efforts.  Stay tuned to find out what’s coming up and join our volunteer group at VolkLibre Indy Action Network if you want to be more involved.
